Make your location and service clear

A useful local listing answers three questions quickly: what do you do, where are you based and how can someone contact you? A Huddersfield customer looking for an optician, plumber or cafe needs those details before a long company history.

Be precise about your base. A salon in Lindley, a workshop in Oakes and a service business covering the Colne Valley should not all describe themselves as a town-centre shop. Explain areas served without inventing additional branches.

Prepare a complete directory profile

Huddersfield Directory accepts free Standard listing submissions for review. Search the directory first to avoid a duplicate, then provide your trading name, website, phone number, accurate location and a description of your main services. Add relevant service tags and an image you have permission to use.

The contact email supplied for managing a listing is private unless you choose to publish it. If your business is already listed, use the owner-edit process associated with the contact on file or contact us about a correction.

Keep your wider presence consistent

Google Business Profile can help eligible businesses present their details on Google Search and Maps. Follow Google’s eligibility and verification guidance, particularly for home-based or service-area businesses. Use the same real-world trading details across your website and relevant listings.

Choose specialist directories only when they fit your trade and audience. Check prices, renewal terms and what a paid option provides. A backlink or a directory profile does not guarantee a search position, enquiries or new customers.

Use support that fits your stage

Business Kirklees provides a local starting point for business support information. Check current programmes and eligibility rather than assuming every scheme is open to every business. A relevant professional body or local network may also help you reach the right people.

Once your listing is live, revisit it when your opening hours, phone, services or address change. Clear, accurate information and useful photographs give customers more to work with than a short description repeated across many unrelated websites.
